Biologist Jeremy Griffith
Jeremy Griffith is an Australian biologist who began writing on the subject of the human condition in 1975, publishing the first of six books in 1988. His 2003 book, A Species In Denial, became an Australasian bestseller, while in June 2016 his definitive treatment on the subject, FREEDOM: The End Of The Human Condition, was launched at the Royal Geographical Society in London, with renowned Australian mountaineer, Tim Macartney-Snape and acclaimed humanitarian Sir Bob Geldof.
Jeremy’s treatise on the human condition is multi-disciplinary, and has been described as ‘grand narrative’ in approach, drawing from the physical sciences, biology, anthropology, and primatology together with philosophy, psychology, and psychiatry.
- Born on 1st December 1945 and raised on a sheep station in rural New South Wales, Australia.
- In 1992 Jeremy visited Africa as part of the international launch of Beyond The Human Condition, and whilst there was invited to visit a number of primate field studies in Kenya and Burundi where he was able to gain first-hand observations of the behaviour of several primate species.
- In 1998 legal proceedings commenced after a defamatory 1995 ABC TV program and Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) newspaper article about Jeremy and the WTM, both produced by a minister of the Uniting Church, were published.
- In 2003 Jeremy published his third book, A Species In Denial, which was a bestseller in Australia and New Zealand.
- In 2004 The Human Condition Documentary Proposal was published and received over 100 endorsements from many of the world’s leading scientists and thinkers, including professors Stephen Hawking and Nobel Laureate Charles H. Townes.
- From 2004-2011 several online publications were published, including The Great Exodus: From the horror and darkness of the human condition (2006); Freedom: Expanded (2009); and The Book of Real Answers to Everything! (2011).
- In 2009 the SMH published this apology to the FHA/WTM as part of a confidential settlement of those proceedings.
- In 2010 at the culmination of the biggest defamation case in Australia’s history, the NSW Court of Appeal unanimously overturned an earlier Supreme Court finding concerning the defamatory 1995 ABC program about the World Transformation Movement. It was a momentous judgment for the WTM, for science and for the future of the human race, the Court of Appeal recognised the non-mechanistic nature of Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the origins and amelioration of the human condition, finding that the lower Court did ‘not adequately consider’ ‘the nature and scale of its subject matter’ or that ‘aspects of Mr Griffith’s work are apt to make those who do take the trouble to grapple with it uncomfortable. It involves reflections upon subject-matter including the purpose of human existence which may, of its nature, cause an adverse reaction as it touches upon issues which some would regard as threatening to their ideals, values or even world views’. Read commentary on the case, and for an analysis of what we understand about some people’s resistance to, and even vilification of, the work of Jeremy and the WTM, read here.
- In 2016 Jeremy published his summa masterpiece book, FREEDOM: The End Of The Human Condition, and its condensation, Transform Your Life And Save The World.
